Description: The Society of Actuaries SoA developed this research project to repeat and expand upon its “Group Medical Insurance Large Claims Database Collection and Analysis” study, which was published as a monograph in August of 1997. The general purpose of these studies is to discover and analyze factors affecting claim incidence rates and the distribution of claim sizes. This is the report for the database. Description: Because data quality is critical in the measurement of an event as rare as the death of a supercentenarian, special care must be used. We will discuss practical methods of validation used by researchers in the field, alternate methodologies and data cleaning procedures to ensure validity of mortality data as extreme old age. We will also explore some of the consequences of inadequate data preparations on the curve of mortality at the end of life.

Description: This article provides encourages participation in and provides instructions for participation in the 2010 CLICE study. The objective of the 2010 study is to provide useful unit expense benchmark information to actuaries and their managements from which to assess their own unit expense performance, while expanding the level of contributions. In addition, CLICE expects the results to be useful in enhancing the generation of the Generally Recognized Expense Table GRET in the U.S. used by some companies to demonstrate compliance with the NAIC model sales illustration regulation.
